Letterhead includes organization mission statement (\"Remove the causes and abolish the Customs of War\"), a list of the chief officers and Executive Committee, and a black-and-white image of a group of European/Colonial settlers meeting with a group of Amerindians. Manuscript is dated \"4th mo 16th 1878\". Manuscript is accompanied by a sepia-tone photograph, measuring 7.6 x 11.5 cm, bearing the image of plow. The reverse of of this image has a typeset column entitled \"History of the Plow and Pruning-Hook\" affixed to it, and treats the history of the call put forth by the Univeral Peace Union at its decade anniversary for military men to surrender their swords for \"conversion into useful instruments\". The plow depicted in the photograph was forged from the metal of such swords."
