"Holograph, signed. Augustus Hesse writes that he has sent two memorials of the 9th Mass. Battery, of which he is a member, one for Almira (his wife) to be put in a frame, \"carefully carved,\" and one for Mrs. Weston. On page two of this manuscript, Augustus Hesse begins a new message, with the salutation, \"My kind friend.\" Hesse confides his anxiety because his wife has not written to him, and he asks Deborah Weston for the reason. On page four of this manuscript, Augustus Hesse begins a new note with the salutation, \"Dear friend.\" Hesse says that they were paid yesterday and that he will send home forty dollars in care of Deborah Weston. The peas that Hesse planted in a box are coming along nicely. They had a grand review and inspection for General Abercrombe. At the bottom of page four, Hesse writes: \"Stonewall Jackson is dead---!\" Includes an envelope with the delivery address: Miss Deborah Weston, Weymouth Landing, near Boston, Massachusetts."
