"Holograph, signed. They were just about to drill as usual when the captain's order sounded like a thunderbolt: \"Strike your tents; Quick; Quick! We have to march right off. Three cheers were given for the marching order and every one of us was happy--- ...\" Augustus Hesse describes the breaking up of camp and the march to Hall's Hill. Hesse said: \"We arrived there at 6 o'clock in the Evening it was dark and mudy [sic] and rained hard, Men and Horses were tired and dit [sic] go without our supper, all of us were looking for a good place to rest during the night.\" Hesse describes his makeshift sleepoig arrangement on top of an ammunition chest. Hesse stood guard two hours in the evening and two in the early morning during a heavy rainstorm. Order came to strike the tents and march to Upton's Hill."
