"Holograph, signed. William Lloyd Garrison praises Marcus Gunn's \"Essay on the Domestic Policy of the United States.\" He thinks it may further human rights. Garrison comments: \"A monarchy is accompanied by many evil and bitter things, and is destined to pass away, in the fulness of time, in whatever country it may at present be found. I am for no other change, however, than such as may be effected by peaceable and moral means; for 'they that take the sword, shall perish with the sword.'\" Garrison suggests that Gunn adds a strong rebuke to slavery in the essay."
