The committee has just voted to engage Harriet Martineau as a correspondent at L50 per annum. He hopes that the subscription list will increase so as to allow for raising Oliver Johnson's salary. He refers to the expense of city living. Garrison's house \"is a semi-hotel\" for anti-slavery friends and visitors. He discusses Arnold Buffum's obituary, written by Lewis Tappan. The anniversary of their society is approaching and Garrison mentions some prospective speakers."
