"Holograph, signed with initials. William Lloyd Garrison will send three volumes of the Liberator to Oliver Johnson. Garrison writes: \"Various persons have spoken to me of the interest and pleasure they have taken in reading your articles in the Christian Union, respecting the anti-slavery struggle; and I enclose a letter from an old and esteemed colored friend, whom perhaps you may remember, expressive of his feelings on the subject.\" Garrison could not go to New York to meet the Villards because of his physical infirmities. He recently attended the funeral of Josiah Hayward of Salem, a colored abolitionist. Garrison doubts very much if he will go to the Progressive Friends' meeting in Longwood, Pennsylvania."
