"Holograph, signed. The beginning of this letter was lost. Extracts were printed in the Worcester Spy, 25 July 1872 and the Boston Daily Advertiser, 26 July 1872. What remains of the manuscript, begins with note that William Lloyd Garrison transcribed, originally by Mrs. Sarah Parkman Shaw Russell, [21 June 1872], to William Lloyd Garrison. Mrs. Russell wants to add her name to the list of friends who gave their name as testimonial of William Lloyd Garrison's long and tried service to the anti-slavery cause. Mrs. Russell also sends $300 to Garrison. William L. Garrison asks Samuel May about whether or not there ought to be a public acknowledgment of Mrs. Russell's gift. Garrison gives news about his children Fanny and William. He complains of the continuous and excessive hot weather. He is very sad about Richard D. Webb's enfeebled condition. Garrison's health has improved since the spring. Includes an envelope with the delivery address: Rev. Samuel May, Jr., Leicester, Mass. It is postmarked Boston, Mass., July 21."
