"Copy of letter, in the hand of another person. William Lloyd Garrison regrets that circumstances prevented him from seeing Jacob Horton more often. Garrison was pleased by the reception recently accorded him by the citizens of Newburyport. He says about the event: \"I wish you could have seen me mounted on the Charleston slave auction-block, on Thursday evening of last week, in Music Hall, in the presence of a magnificent audience, carried away with enthusiasm, and giving me their long protracted cheers and plaudits!\" At a similar demonstration in Lowell, Garrison was greeted with prolonged applause. Garrison's wife is still \"much crippled by her paralytic condition.\" He has not heard from his son George Thompson Garrison \"since he entered Charleston with the 55th Mass. Reg't, singing the John Brown Song, and cheering for Abraham Lincoln and John A. Andrew.\""
