"Handwritten transcription of letter; not William Lloyd Garrison's handwriting. William Lloyd Garrison thanks Mrs. Louisa Gilman Loring for the donation of $10 as remuneration for the $10 of duty on the tea set given to Garrison in Edinburgh, Scotland. Through the activity of Eliza Frances Meriam, the entire sum was raised. Garrison hates the Custom House; he favors free trade. During the next two months, Garrison will travel and address many thousands of people. He has hitherto seen little of Pennsylvania and nothing of Ohio. He reflects on the progress of the anti-slavery cause since 1835."
