"Holograph, signed. William Lloyd Garrison describes having a very pleasant Christmas Eve, with a tall and shapely evergreen in his parlor, beautiful ornaments, pretty gifts for the six grandchildren that were present, and kind wishes from the friends and neighbors that visited for the occasion. Garrison received Samuel May's acknowledgment of the book by John Greenleaf Whittier, Songs of Three Centuries, that Garrison gave to him as a gift. Garrison has a strong desire to write a compilation of his own, tentatively entitled \"Poems of Freedom, Philanthropy, Reform, and Progress.\" Includes an envelope with the delivery address: Rev. Samuel May, Leicester, Mass. It is postmarked Boston, Mass., Dec. 31."
