"Holograph, signed with initials. Letter written in pencil. William Lloyd Garrison arrived in Chicago yesterday and stayed with a family named Freer. He addressed a large audience in the evening, where he met a number of people from New England, including Mr. and Mrs. Doggett. He describes Chicago. He dislikes it when the newspapers print his lecture in full since it makes it impossible for him to give the same lecture repeatedly. Also, people read his lecture in the newspapers instead of going to hear him speak. Garrison was introduced to his audience by Rev. Robert Collyer. The weather is as mild as summer. He was much relieved to get letters from home and to hear that the Liberator is getting along all right. Wendell Phillips Garrison is getting married on December 6th."
