notes
"Holograph, signed with initials. William Lloyd Garrison gives a brief description of Princeton, Illinois. He called on Mrs. Owen Lovejoy. He addressed a large audience and met several people afterwards, including John Howard Bryant, the brother of the poet William C. Bryant. Garrison writes: \"I am glad to find, on my tour, a general conviction of loyal men that the true method to deal with the South is to hold her firmly by the strong arm of the General Government until she can be safely admitted by the adoption of free institutions.\""
