"Holograph, signed. William Lloyd Garrison considers Frankfort-on-the-Main \"a city far more American in the general appearance of the inhabitants, and in the style of many of its residences, than any I have yet seen abroad.\" He lost two trunks in transit between Lucerne, Paris, and London. He is to attend a reception given by the Committee of the National Freedmen's Aid Union. He mentions other meetings to be held on behalf of the freedmen. The Villards hesitate to return to America owing to the high cost of living and the lack of a satisfactory agreement between Horace White of the Chicago Tribune and Henry Villard. Frederick William Chesson could give no information concerning George Thompson. Garrison met Dr. Henry Ingersoll Bowditch on the boat from Calais to Dover. Anne Warren Weston will return to the United States with William L. Garrison, Dr. Bowditch, and others."
