"Holograph, signed. In this letter William Lloyd Garrison thanks La Roy Sunderland for disclosures relative to Garrison's personal safety. Some wretches in the South would assassinate Garrison for sixpence. He was aware of this danger and peril when he began his advocacy for African rights. Garrison does not \"justify the slaves in their rebellion\" since he holds the Quaker principle against fighting for liberty. This letter was first printed in the Sept. 18, 1831, issue of the Liberator. It was later reprinted in an unidentified periodical, see Call No. Ms.A.1.1 v.1, p.7B."
