"Holograph, signed. William Lloyd Garrison doubts that he can attend the Progressive Friends' meeting in Longwood owing to Fanny Garrison Villard's arrival. William L. Garrison writes: \"[Edward Morris] Davis and [Richard] Purvis, if present, will in all probability try to commit the Meeting adversely to the nomination of Gen[eral] Grant; but I trust a majority will be found resolutely to oppose taking action on any Presidential nomination as such.\" He assumes that Oliver Johnson received a copy of the \"Proceedings at the Public Breakfast in St. James's Hall.\" He asks Oliver Johnson and Theodore Tilton to give credit in the Independent to F. W. Chesson for promoting the Public Breakfast and also to print a letter by Ambassador Charles F. Adams related to the event. Mary Anne Estlin and Richard Davis Webb are on their way to New York. Garrison hopes that Oliver Johnson will give them a warm welcome."
