"Holograph, signed with initials. William Lloyd Garrison gives Oliver Johnson permission to make changes to his article for the Independent. The Rev. George Porter asked Garrison for loan of money upon finding himself \"temporarily straitened on his arrival in New York.\" Garrison thinks he may not get a dollar back \"not for lack of honesty of purpose, but because it may prove a case of 'chronic poverty.'\" Several weeks ago Garrison loaned twenty dollars to Peter Sinclair, a Scottish temperance leader now interested in European immigration to the United States. Garrison has experienced many instances of not having his money returned. Garrison's letter to Susan B. Anthony was a private one, \"concerning that nondescript Train.\" Mrs. Stanton violated that privacy by printing it."
