notes
"Holograph, signed. On Dec. 11, 1846, William Lloyd Garrison's daughter, Elizabeth Pease Garrison, was born. Sister Sarah's cancerous tumor in her breast was cured. Garrison finds it hard to combine the care of a large family with the duties of a \"leading\" abolitionist. The Unitarian clergymen gave aid to Garrison's mission in Britain. Francis Bishop named his new daughter Caroline Garrison Bishop. James Martineau is said to sympathize with Orville Dewey and Francis Parkman. Garrison missed seeing Harriet Martineau, who had left for Egypt. In England, the Unitarians are regarded little better than infidels. Garrison comments: \"The blow that was given to the Evangelical Alliance, by our bold, prompt and scathing condemnation of it, was like a thunder-bolt from heaven.\" The British Alliance at Manchester declared the slaveholders ineligible to a seat; Garrison credits this to the \"indefatigable exertions\" of Henry C. Wright, Frederick Douglass, and George Thompson."
