notes
"Handwritten copy of letter; not William Lloyd Garrison's handwriting. Whereabouts of original manuscript unknown. William Lloyd Garrison likens the Boston riot of Oct. 21, 1835 to the mobbing of St. Paul at Ephesus by the silver workers of the temple of Diana and claims that the Boston riot \"was a bid for Southern trade on the part of the Boston merchants, manufacturers, and traders.\" He doesn't favor the formation of a political party devoted primarily to the furtherance of temperance. He thinks that most of the advocates of temperance are Republicans."
