notes
"Holograph, signed. Samuel Joseph May's letter summons William Lloyd Garrison; May promises to pay for Garrison's travel expenses. Garrison hesitates, but then he accepts. Garrison suggests a select meeting of friends in order that they make a critical examination of resolutions and then make a reliable report of the proceedings. He expects that there will be misrepresentations made by papers like the Star. He hopes Joshua Reed Giddings will be there. John P. Hale is \"too politic\" to appear at the meeting. Theodore Parker gave Garrison an admirable letter to be read at the meeting."
