"Transcription in the hand of Frank L. Johnson. Pages 5-7 of this manuscript consist of a letter by William Lloyd Garrison to Nathaniel T. Allen, written on Dec. 8, 1874, and copied and transcribed by Frank L. Johnson on August 23, 1879. William L. Garrison is replying to the letter he received from Nathaniel T. Allen some weeks ago, which enclosed an article from the Newton Journal condemning the organization of a church solely for colored people. Garrison agrees with Nathaniel T. Allen that segregation \"in matters of religious worship\" is to be resisted to the utmost. Pages 1-4 of this manuscript consist of a separate letter by Nathaniel T. Allen to Mr. Garrison, i.e. the son of William Lloyd Garrison, on August 23, 1879. Nathaniel T. Allen writes: \"I am glad to send the letters of your Father. The one relating to Churches for Colored people was printed in our Newton Journal & is hanging in my library in a frame.\""
