"Holograph, signed. William Lloyd Garrison is replying to William Ingersoll Bowditch's letter of March 30, 1868, Call No. Ms.A.1.1 v.7, p.77A. Garrison writes: \"I see no justification whatever for the course you are resolved to pursue in regard to Mr. Jackson's legacy; and, deeming it utterly indefensible, I could not forbear saying so, ...\" If the court held that the money should be paid to the National Anti-Slavery Standard, Garrison and the fellow trustees would have quickly paid it over. Garrison wonders why William Ingersoll Bowditch and Wendell Phillips cannot act in the same spirit. (Apparently, the New England Freedmen's Aid Commission has not yet received Francis Jackson's legacy.)"
