notes: "Holograph, signed with initials. This letter is about the trip that Ann Terry Greene Phillips and Wendell Phillips took to London in the summer of 1839. Wendell Phillips couldn't go to Scotland, even at George Thompson's urgent request. Ann T. G. Phillips describes an interview with George Thompson and Elizabeth Pease [Nichol] and about the articles they are sending to the anti-slavery fair. Thompson thought England's cotton could be obtained from India, and not from American slaveholders. Elizabeth Pease [Nichol] asked many questions about the Grimkes. Ann T. G. Phillips looked for presents of clothing for Maria Weston Chapman and her children, but could find nothing. She tells about a visit from Mrs. [Joshua] Bates. This letter contains much dialogue."
