notes
"Holograph. Deborah Weston is glad that she is not going to be here any longer. She enumerates the interests that occupy her time. Deborah writes: \"Tell Caroline [West on] though that I am getting along very well in my arithmetic & my school goes beautifully.\" She mentions two visiting preachers, Frederick T. Gray, a city missionary, and Mr. Ellis, who was worried about a sermon of his which had been called \"a slaveholding sermon.\" Deborah remarks, \"He did not seem to understand his own sermon in the least.\" She tells about the hospitality received from Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Rider, both \"stout-hearted Abolitionists,\" and about the attitude of different visitors. Deborah asks Anne Weston to tell Maria W. Chapman that \"the little [colored?] child of Henry Bright's which Mrs. Robinson brought here is doing very well.\" Deborah is thrilled at the thought of coming home, and regrets that the late Ann [Greene] Chapman will not be there. There is a separate, unrelated manuscript with the same Call No., Ms.A.9.2, v.9, p.88. The document is signed by I. [Isaac] Knapp. It reads: \"At the special meeting of the Board of the Mass. A. S. Soc'y, Nov. 15, 1837. Voted, that the Treasurer by authorized to settle with the Mr. Knapp for printing the Liberator to the expiration of the year 1837, and to give his acceptances for the am't due payable when in funds. Copy, from the records.\""
