Deborah describes an evening party at Mr. Ben Rodman's. Samuel Rodman is anxious to see Elizabeth Heyrick's pamphlet, mentioned by Garrison in his lecture. [Elizabeth Heyrick of Leicester, England, was the author of Immediate, Not Gradual, Emancipation.] The ladies were impressed by the marriage of Elizabeth Bates to \"Van der Weyer.\" The Taunton people are expecting Maria W. Chapman. Deborah asks if she is coming. Mrs. Howland invites Maria W. Chapman to stay at her house. \"...all you need to do would be to make yourself as handsome as you can, that folks need not be disappointed.\" All who have seen him are \"in a perfect extasy [sic] in regard to Mr. [John A.] Collins.\" Deborah will look up the Methodist minister, Mr. Wilson, \"who was very stout in times past.\""
