"Holograph, signed. On pages 1-2 of this manuscript, there is a letter by Evelina A. S. Smith to Caroline Weston. Evelina begins with a discussion regarding the return of some bags, probably made for the anti-slavery fair. She mentions a plan for a society to educate black people in Liberia and warns against undertaking such a project for reasons of vanity, pride, or ambition. She tells of a man named Brooks who is lecturing on education in Plymouth County. On page three, there is a separate note by Increase S. Smith to Caroline Weston. Increase S. Smith comments on Mr. Brooks's lecture on education, the congregation in Abington, and the fact that he and his wife have not joined the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society. He tells about the pleasure he gets from the study of the classics."
