"Holograph, signed with initials. In this letter, Lucia Weston wrote: \"Wendell made his 'maiden speech' it was I heard a very fine one.\" Henry B. Stanton and Wendell Phillips planned that the latter should speak before the legislature. The box from the ladies of Darlington, England, arrived with a letter from George Thompson. Lucia relates that \"about one thousand mobbers\" were gathered when Gershaw(?) lectured to the Ladies [Anti-Slavery Society?], and \"every lady that came out was hissed.\" Mrs. [Thankful Hussey] Southwick \"was on the spot and addressed several of the men.\" Lucia and Caroline Weston went to the Smith school house to help teach in the colored school."
