"Holograph, signed. Written on page one of this manuscript, is a letter from Lucinda Wilmarth to Maria Weston Chapman. Wilmarth is concerned with contributions to the anti-slavery fair. A lady who pledged $5 has refused to pay it because she has become convinced that fairs are wrong. The ladies of Foxboro, with the aid of Mansfield, might get a table at the fair. Wilmarth comments: \"We look for much good to result from Garrison's visit.\" Written across the top of page one and on page two, is a draft of a letter by Maria Weston Chapman. She has composed an argument concerning the \"incompetent committee\" [perhaps of the National Society]. Chapman likens the executive committee to rats on board ship which must be fed so that they will not gnaw holes into the bottom. In the eyes of the National Society, when the Massachusetts Society failed to deny that women are persons, they introduced the \"woman question.\" Chapman hopes that if anything is said about women's rights, \"the party uttering it will be called to order.\" At top of the manuscript, there is an engraved image by P. Reason, entitled \"A Colored Young Man of the City of New York, 1835.\""
