"Holograph, signed. Maria Weston Chapman found a number of members of the [Boston Female Anti-Slavery] Society opposed to making the Society's report her vehicle of communication, which was handed to her by the Misses Ball. Chapman justifies her course in inserting this communication in the front of the report, and states that she will discharge the extra expense incurred. She regrets that the communication was ambiguous and that those who made it \"should not have taken a different position from the outset.\" She recognizes in the society \"an apparently irreconcilable difference of opinion ...\" Chapman has always announced her intension not to suppress her own views. Written across pages two through three, apparently at a later time, is this comment by Maria W. Chapman: \"I asked if they knew that this was 'war, to the knife's point?' they said they did.\""
