He attacked the Abolitionists by name in a very vile manner that is supposing he meant us, for all he said applied perfectly to Torrey Colver etc. The idea was that the Abolitionists were spiritual slaveholders 'incarnations of the laws of Georgia and Alabama.' He however bore something of a testimony as to Slavery for he spoke of it in company with 'fraud' & other acknowledged vices.\" Caroline Weston has a letter from Richard Hildreth. Included is a typed transcript of paragraph 4, from Emerson's Essay on Character, that is mentioned Anne Warren Weston's letter."
