notes: "Holograph, signed. Evelina A. S. Smith has heard very good accounts of the New York and Boston anti-slavery meetings, but she thinks that the New Hampshire meeting at Concord \"entirely failed of the intended effect.\" She refers to \"absurdities committed in Boston on the 17th.\" President Tyler \"insulted us by bringing a slave here.\" Daniel Webster \"was evidently crippled, I think, [by his knowledge of conditions] for his speech was a poor affair.\" Mr. Oliver Stearns, the Hingham minister, has grown conservative in respect to slavery since Miss [Abby] Kelley was here and in religion since Mr. Theodore Parker was here. Mr. Increase S. Smith has been turned out of the Sunday school. Evelina A. S. Smith says: \"... the Baptists are very zealous, the Episcopalians are getting up a society, & in fact, to use a much abused expression, every one is inquiring what shall I do to be saved. In all this I have no part or lot & feel that it is all sham.\""
