She describes the impression made by Frederick Douglass: \"There never was a person who made a greater sensation in Cork amongst all religious bodies.\" The Methodists are still angry about his statements after three weeks. Isabel Jennings believes that \"in private he is greatly to be liked---he has gained friends every where he has been--- ...He is the first intelligent slave who has ever visited Cork and it is only natural that he should excite more sympathy than any of the others.\" Isabel Jennings saw little of James N. Buffum. \"We all liked him and felt for his homesickness.\" Conditions in Ireland are improving; the potato disease seems to be arrested by the frost."
