"Holograph, signed. In this letter, John Treadwell Norton proposes a union of abolitionists and offers nine suggestions. The unhappy divisions have proved a hindrance. The union cannot be effected without the omission of matters of opinion, etc., not necessarily connected with slavery. Norton suggests a meeting of individuals representing different views and the withholding of publicity unless favorable views should ensue. Other copies of this circular letter will be sent to Joshua Leavitt, John G. Whittier, Lewis Tappan, Gerrit Smith, and Theodore D. Weld."
