"Holograph, signed. Samuel Joseph May writes: \"On the 1st day of the year, we had a grand meeting of our cold weather Army in my meeting house.\" About twelve youths had temperance pieces that they presented. Samuel J. May is thinking of arranging a similar celebration in the interest of the anti-slavery cause, and for this he needs the help of Maria Weston Chapman and her sisters. He explains jokingly: \"And as you have nothing else to do I feel of course, no hesitation in calling upon you.\" He especially wants assistance devising suitable decorations. Written in pencil below Samuel Joseph May's signature on page two of this manuscript, is the question: \"What say you?\""
