notes
"Holograph, signed. There are two letters contained within this manuscript. It begins with a letter from Anne Warren Weston to her niece, Anne Greene Chapman (Dicey), affectionately called \"Handy\" in the salutation. Anne W. Weston tells about a snake twenty feet long, called \"Anny,\" who shares their first name. She describes an accident that happened to Johnny Beane. Anne W. Weston will come home in four weeks. The letter ends with a humorous poem for Deborah Weston. On page two, begins a letter from Anne Warren Weston to her sister Deborah Weston. Anne describes her after school engagements. She heard Dr. J. V. C. Smith on geology at the Lyceum. She said about the lecture: \"The house was very full; the lecture so so.\" Anne's chest is sore and her lungs feel as if she had been running or reading aloud too much. She tells about social contacts with New Bedford people. She describes what she had to eat at Mrs. Grace Emerson's house. Miss Vose is so poorly that she had to give up teaching. Anne has been amused by \"Percival Keene,\" a story by Frederick Marryat."
