"Holograph. The beginning of this letter is missing. It is apparently a rough draft, presumably by Maria Weston Chapmn, in answer to a letter to the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society. Chapman explains why the addressee's letter, though welcome, was not applicable to the case, where \"great principles of action are assailed & where treachery to them is striving to uphold itself by falsehood & deception.\" Chapman remarks that \"we are now actually without a board of directors.\" The letter \"M\" appears in the place of the signature."
