notes
"Holograph, signed. In this letter, Maria Weston Chapman refers contemptuously to the \"attempted rehabilitation\" of the damaged reputation of Mayor Lyman by his son Theodore Lyman. She also severely criticizes a similar attempt to represent Dr. William Ellery Channing as the head of the anti-slavery movement. Chapman briefly refers to the Boston Public Library. Includes envelope with the delivery address: \"The Reverend Samuel May, Leicester, Mass'tts.\" Enclosed, there is a typed transcript of this manuscript; transcribed by the Boston Public Library."
