notes
"Holograph, signed. William Lloyd Garrison regrets that he was unable to see more of Prof. John Nichol, Elizabeth Pease Nichol's stepson, while he was in the United States. Garrison expresses great appreciation of Mrs. Nichol's aid to the anti-slavery cause. Garrison gives news of his family: Mrs. Helen Eliza Garrison's arm is still paralized, but she can walk; Wendell is engaged to Lucy McKim; Fanny will soon marry Henry Villard; George returned safely from war; Franky is studying to get into Harvard; and William has entered into the wool business. William L. Garrison writes: \"The Liberator is now on its last quarter. It will be, on many accounts, hard for me to discontinue its publication; yet, for weighty reasons, I think it best to do so.\" The Liberator's subscription list has always been inadequate to cover the expenses of the publication. George Thompson is living in Boston. George Thompson's \"match business is not yet remunerative, but he has done and will do well pecuniarily in the lecturing field.\" Also with Call No. Ms.A.1.1 v.6, p.123 is an extract of this same letter by William Lloyd Garrison to Elizabeth Pease Nichol, Oct. 9, 1865. It is written in the hand of another person. The extract consists of two paragraphs regarding William Lloyd Garrison ending the publication, the Liberator."
